2009 Explorer Travel Series

The UnScene Explorer Series is a division of the UnScene Tour created to help emerging artists with hands-on training especially in the areas of developing a body of work. With every UnScene Explorer Series, we have three goals in mind for you. You explore a new part of the planet, you evolve your photography and your work is exposed after the trip.

UnScene Explorer chooses travel destinations that offer both an aesthetic platform and a journey to document different living environments. The program seeks out unique cities and areas that inspire storytelling. The UnScene Explorer offers two program levels: Tyro and Emerging.

TYRO: Open to any budding photographer, Tyro (which means novice) is geared toward individuals who love photography, have a camera but want to get out of their comfort zone. Daily courses and one-on-one time in several key areas help any Tyro get more acquainted with their camera and the overall art of photography. Key learning areas include: Lighting, metering, depth of field, ISO, flash, composition, lens, file management, editing and more.

EMERGING: Accepted only by portfolio review online, photographers chosen for the Emerging program will gain assistance in curating their body of work from conceptual idea to hanging gallery piece. Gallery curators and instructors join the Emerging group on an artistic journey that helps most emerging artists see their work differently. Daily classes and one-on-one time include: Researching and choosing an assignment (research is also conducted prior to trip), conceptualizing a story, curating, how to work with a gallery, how to get gallery-ready. At the end of each trip is “exposure.”

Each Emerging photographer is given the chance to show their work documented from the Explorer trip in a public venue that is artistic, credible, PR worthy and resume sound. Each artist is allowed to showcase 6-10 prints ranging from 16x20 to 20x24 in print size. Each show will be curated differently adhering to curating guidelines.
